This video features a poem that is said to be the origin of the name of a flower, “Miyakowasure”, which is the title of this song. The poem was written by a historical figure, Emperor Juntoku. How fascinating it is that through a choral song, we were connected to and were moved by a poem that was written over 800 years ago.
“Some Day “ “Some Day” is a medley of thirteen children’s songs that were arranged by Shunichiro Genda. Many of you will probably be familiar with these songs that have been children’s favorites for decades. We hope that these songs will bring you joy and even perhaps make you feel as though you were transported back to your childhood. The songs in this video were recorded at the San Francisco Forest Choir 15th Anniversary Concert.
This year's virtual choir was a joint production with our brother and sister choirs, Chorale May and Ensemble Shiki. We sang the theme song of the movie “Poupelle Of Chimney Town”, released in Japan last year (2020), based on a book of the same name by Akihiro Nishino. The song gives love and courage to people living in modern society: if you have a dream, you may be laughed at, and if you raise your voice, you may be beaten up, but you will ultimately persevere. This song was created as the theme song for the NHK TV drama “Sakano Ue No Kumo (Clouds above the Slope)“. The origin of this drama is a famous historical novel of the same name which was written by Ryotaro Shiba.(司馬遼太郎) The story was set in the Meiji era. People were very excited at the arrival of a new era that was so dramatically different from feudal society. What is the meaning of Sakano Ueno Kumo? / Clouds above the slope? Ryotaro Shiba wrote as follows:The people from the Meiji era , who undertook to modernize and westernize Japan, has oriented to see what is ahead of them. They intend not to look back. If there are white clouds in the blue sky above the slope, they would just focus on the clouds and keep walking forward to it.During this difficult time, I hope this song will give you the courage and the excitement of the unseen bright future ahead of us.

Animals play an important role in Japanese folk tales. They often fight and trick each other, and they don’t seem to get along. Is that true? Perhaps they wish they became good friends.
